IT ALL STARTED WHEN…
… I realized that as a degreed accountant I was doing more counseling than accounting! I decided if I was planning to do counseling right I would get a degree in it.
I've received specialty training the areas of body (somatic) awareness, anxiety, weight control and pain management. I hold a certificate in Anxiety studies and also hold a certificate in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) as taught by the Center of Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. This happens to be where Jon Kabbot Zinn has done most of his groundbreaking work over the past 40 years in the successful application of Mindfulness studies in so many aspects of life. He and his cohorts have shown in study after study how the effects of de-stressing the body helps any number of physical symptoms.
My Master's Degree is from Naropa University in Contemplative Counseling Psychotherapy, again emphasizing the areas of controlling stress and anxiety through conscious relaxation.
As with all Psychotherapists, learning does not stop when you are granted a degree. I’ve chosen to continue my own learning in areas of anxiety, neuro-processing systems of the brain, body image anxiety, healthy eating, and spiritual learning.
I have enjoyed worldly and spiritual experiences that have allowed me to embrace the beauty and elegance in a variety of spiritual philosophies.
ON A MORE PERSONAL NOTE…
I love time with my family, especially baking gluten free cakes and treats for my Dad who’s in his 90s. My husband is a firmware engineer and our son is a commercial helicopter pilot and his wife is discovering a career in social services. It’s a joyful life that I had to deliberately seek and discover by accepting the joy and blessings to be found in my daily living.
I know a lot about weight loss and chronic pain because I have personal experience in both along with my specialty training. Once I lived it I knew I wanted to share my discoveries and debunk the cultural myths around both losing weight and living with chronic pain.
I would love the opportunity to help you if you’re dealing with extra weight, are living with chronic pain, or both. Anxiety is one of those aspects of life that can catch any of us off guard. It happens to some people to more of an extreme. If you believe your life has been de-railed too far because of anxiety, please call me. I am pleased to discuss how I approach anxiety in my counseling methods to help you discover the calmer you.
All of these topics tie in with your spiritual life whether you’re aware of it or not. Regardless of your belief system, we can discuss and apply the spiritual life that suits you to bring all of this together into the system that is uniquely you.
